Education — what students need and how we deliver it to our students — does and should look different than when we all went to school. Yes, it is still important that we focus on the core coursework. It is also important that we give greater attention to what students individually need. We know that each person has different learning styles and needs.
As part of meeting student needs, we are proud of the work we do to really support students and families. It also means that we have to be smart with our resources and with opportunities that come our way. With the recent redrawing of the elementary attendance boundaries, we have a unique opportunity to bring some much-needed changes to our preschool program.
What are the changes that will occur to the preschool program? First, instead of having the program spread throughout the district’s elementary schools, we will consolidate the program so that it is in two locations. This will allow us to bring more resources together from the buildings and provide for better teacher collaboration and service delivery to students. We are very excited about this.
This change will take effect with the 2019-20 school year. The two preschool locations will be Holly Hill and Willowville Elementary Schools. We believe this opportunity will increase the value of our program and benefit students in a positive way while allowing us to offer a higher level of service and offerings to our youngest “wolf pups.”
Starting in January, we will begin the work of implementing this change so that we are ready for when students arrive in the fall. In announcing this now, as part of our new elementary attendance boundaries, we wanted parents and students to have enough time to plan. In the meantime, we realize that there may be questions.
