Gaining Perspective Through a Look Back at 2021

The year 2021 was not short on challenges. Our students continued to grow, however, benefiting academically, socially and emotionally from being back in a brick and mortar setting with their friends and educators. We thank each and every one of our students, staff, families and community members for working alongside us to navigate another year of learning in a pandemic. Being together and working with our partners allowed us to grow our commitment to our Portrait of a Graduate outcomes, ensuring our students are future-ready. As we begin 2022, we take this opportunity to reflect and be grateful for how far we have come.

This school year our preschool population grew. As a result, we have added additional staffing to serve the Wolf Pups. At the elementary level, we added art, physical education, music, and a new career awareness class called Discover. Our middle school is studying a new start time through West Clermont’s Citizens Advisory Commission and is revamping its master schedule for the 2022-2023 school year. Our high school is piloting an expanded flexible schedule during the second semester to allow us to make more personal connections, target individual needs and serve our students better.

Additionally, knowing we can’t continue what we’ve always done and expect different results, both the middle and high school leadership teams are evaluating how we invest our time in school and are creating plans for the future.

We have also added staff at each of our buildings to promote student success. Whether in the form of psychologists, counselors, dean of students, administrators, or lunchroom and recess monitors, these caring professionals are helping our students grow and learn. We are also investing in a new math curriculum adoption process.

Our community continues to be a key facet of our success as well. Local organizations and businesses recently joined us to create Community Asset Maps, a tool that identifies all the resources in our community that can help our students build connections, expand learning opportunities, and turn our community into a classroom that’s ready to be explored. This is a bold vision leading to real-world learning in our classrooms and beyond.

We are proud of our commitment to continuous improvement and finding innovative ways to change the student experience in our school district. We recognize none of this would be possible without the passing of the operational levy and additional state and federal funding to support school districts in this unique time, so as always, thank you for your support.

We are confident in West Clermont that 2022 will present another new beginning for us with our same mission: Commit to excellence with every learner, every day, every way! With our strong sense of team and community, we believe there is nothing that we cannot accomplish together. We will continue to live out our plans to care for and connect with our students so that they have a sense of belonging, provide meaningful learning experiences, help students assess their talents and aspirations, and inspire students to create a personal leadership path toward their goals.

Our team is completely invested in taking what we have learned these last few years and creating a bright future for all West Clermont students. In 2022 please join us in intentionally focusing on what is right in education, and for our students and our world, because we know we will continue to RISE by building on our strengths and expanding our thinking.  We are grateful for what we have courageously built together. With your help and support, we will continue this positive momentum.

Happy New Year!
